Austin's Story

In 2013 when I became a Registered Dietitian, I was also a personal trainer who worked with many people who had old injuries. One of my very first clients I worked with was 65 years old and she worked with me for about 7 years. She's the main reason why I wanted to go into Physical Therapy.

When I first met her she was really overweight, had some back and knee problems and as a trainer I didn’t know a whole lot as I do now as a physical therapist. I was able to help her lose some weight, stay in shape, feel great and improve her strength so that she can keep her independence and mobility. I realized that I loved working with people like her and I wanted to learn how to rehabilitate people with their injuries on an internal and external level.

I believe in a holistic approach and I figured there were a lot more people out there who could improve their health with good nutrition and physical therapy. I went through PT school through the lens of a dietitian and I realized that hardly any information was given on nutrition or any aspect of internal rehabilitation using food as your medicine.

I feel that someone's overall health outcomes are greatly improved when you address their bodies on an internal and physical level. This is extremely important because the majority of people in the U.S are overweight and I was seeing a lot of people with problems in the clinic that could’ve totally been prevented.

What frustrated me was the fact that I was seeing patients for things that I shouldn’t have seen them for because they weren’t putting the right things in their body. I’ve seen many overweight and obese patients who’ve come into physical therapy for back and knee pain. How about you?

As a PT myself I understand that we aren’t set up in a situation where we could truly make changes to a person’s diet, nutrition and rehab during physical therapy. As PTs we aren’t trained in nutrition and don’t have the proper knowledge or education to address patients' nutritional needs specifically. The one thing that we’re missing when rehabbing our patients is nutrition to promote the internal recovery process.

I know how frustrating it is to see these patients who need much more than PT alone. I also know the struggles of seeing patients not getting better as fast as they could because of the junk they’re putting in their body. As a Physical Therapist it’s frustrating to not be able to aid your patients on the entire recovery aspect of PT.

I know the frustrations PTs get of not having complete answers and solutions for these patients, when all they really need is the appropriate referral to a registered dietitian who knows exactly what they’re doing. PTs aren’t set up in a situation to do anything about a patient’s nutrition, even if they do have the knowledge. There is a MASSIVE problem and I realized that there is a big disconnect.

Nobody out there is helping these people out in their overall health. Us as PTs are working on symptoms to specific physical problems, but not addressing any internal root causes. Working in an outpatient PT clinic I've come to realize that we can't be everything to everyone. With that in mind it led me to create a new opportunity for PTs that releases you from all liability, frees up your time and helps your patient become healthier and recover faster without even achieving their PT goals.

PTs are already overwhelmed and burnt out with patient care and documentation alone. PTs don’t have access to RDs and RDs don’t have access to these patients. I have a new solution that can help your patients out with their internal recovery process by having access to my Certified RDs that are specifically trained in this area.

I’m on a mission to help people in physical therapy accelerate their recovery when injured and lose weight without traditional yo-yo dieting. Our goal at Winning Wellness is to help patients safely lose weight, dominate their health and accelerate their recovery when injured.

We want to help you help your patients quicken their healing times by addressing their nutrition to promote internal recovery. We believe in a holistic approach to healing, and nutrition is definitely a powerful element for truly creating a change in the human body.

What People Are Saying About Austin...

LAUREN

As a physical therapist, I'm always skeptic of nutrition and wellness books. However, after finishing his book, I was presently surprised. COLLIN

Dr. Austin Win provides quality nutrition information in a digestible and applicable format. I personally enjoyed the perspective he provides as both a registered dietitian and doctor of physical therapy. Encouraging a lifestyle approach to nutrition, driven by habits, is the healthiest and most effective way to effect change and achieve goals whether you are looking at this as coach, clinician or for yourself.
